Logisim-evolution 5.0.0: What’s New
Version 5.0.0 was released on September 12, 2026. It is the current stable release and the version you should download. Below are the highlights that matter most to users; the full changelog is on the GitHub releases page.
New features
- Find Action search — press
Ctrl+Shift+A(or tap Shift twice) and type part of any menu action’s name to find and run it. Fuzzy matching included. - Image component — insert your own bitmap images into circuits and subcircuit appearances.
- Real-Time Clock component and Floating Point Constant component — new building blocks for the library.
- Signed/unsigned multiplier option and a “Show Bus Width” wire attribute that labels multi-bit buses.
- New TTL chips: 7476 (dual J-K flip-flop), 7493 (4-bit binary counter), 7438 (quad NAND, open collector), and 74173 (4-bit D-type registers).
- 12-bit color mode for the RGB Video component.
- Better file handling — drag project files straight into the window to open them; selectively merge individual circuits (with their dependencies) from another file; export single circuits as standalone files.
- Anti-aliasing preference for smoother UI rendering, and a much improved dark theme.
- Multiline text labels (Shift+Enter), paste-at-mouse-position, and a filterable component tree.
Improvements and fixes
- Timing diagram (chronogram) recording and exports corrected.
- HDL and FPGA generation fixes, including FPGA support for the Bit Finder component.
- Memory tools improved: go-to-address in the hex editor, clearer RAM reset behavior, opt-in RAM data-bus mode.
- The Linux
.debpackage now installs cleanly on Debian 12 and Ubuntu 22.04. - Dozens of stability fixes across editing, simulation, and the VHDL tools — plus many smaller bug fixes.
Should you upgrade?
Yes. If you are on 4.1.0 or older, 5.0.0 is a straightforward upgrade with new components and a long list of fixes. One caution, as always: back up your .circ files first, and note that files saved in 5.0.0 cannot be reopened in much older versions.
